Everything first-time HotFace users ask: how to start, how filters and modes work, what is free, and where the safety tools live.

Browser-based, no sign-up
Works on mobile and desktop browsers. No app to install, no account to create before chatting.

What is HotFace?
HotFace is a free random video chat platform that matches you with strangers for live, face to face conversation — directly in your browser, with no download and no sign-up. Tap start and you are talking to a real person within seconds.
What sets it apart from classic roulette sites: gender and country filters are free, you can match by video, audio, or text, and a minimum age policy plus active moderation keep the community accountable. If you prefer one person at a time, there is also a private 1-on-1 video chat mode.
This guide walks through everything first-time users ask: how to start, how the filters and modes work, what is free, and where the safety tools live.
How to use HotFace in four steps
Open hotface.com
In any mobile or desktop browser. There is nothing to install and no account wall before your first chat.
Allow camera and microphone
Your browser asks once. You can switch to audio-only or text matching if you are not ready for the cam yet.
Set filters (optional)
Pick a gender or country preference, or leave both open for full roulette. Filters are free on HotFace.
Tap start and say hi
You are matched with a real person in seconds. Stay if it clicks, skip if it does not — both are one tap.
That is genuinely all of it. If it is your first time on camera with a stranger, our guide on what to expect in your first face to face video chat walks through the experience minute by minute.
Video, audio, and text: pick how you start
Video matching
The full experience: a live face to face chat where you both see and hear each other from the first second.
Audio matching
Voice only — lower pressure, same real-time connection. A favorite first step for nervous starters.
Text matching
Start typing first and turn on the camera only when the conversation earns it. You control the upgrade.
Switch anytime
Modes are not silos. Start with text, move to voice, end up face to face — inside the same conversation.
Using the gender and country filters
Filters are where HotFace differs most from older roulette sites — and they are free. Set a gender preference if you specifically want a random video chat with girls, pick a country or language region to practice a language or meet people from a specific place, or leave everything open for full roulette randomness.
You can also skip the randomness entirely: browse who is online right now and start a chat with someone specific instead of waiting for the wheel.

Where the safety tools live
One-tap report
Flag bad behavior directly from the chat screen. Reports go to active moderation, not a void.

Skip as a shield
The fastest safety tool is the next button. Anything feels off — skip first, think later.
Minimum age policy
Access is restricted to users aged 18 and over, with moderation and community guidelines enforced around that line.
For the habits side — what to share, what to keep private — see our guide on how to talk to strangers online safely.
